The annual awards were presented at the annual conference of the Association of Energy Economists.

On Tuesday, December 9, 2025, the Association des Economistes de l'Energie awarded a prize for a work led by French authors who offer remarkable contributions to the economic analysis of the energy sector:

  • the Marcel Boiteux Energy Saving Award is awarded to Lucas Chancel for the work "Energy and inequality. Political history »

Christophe BonneryPresident of EEA said: "The EEA Award, created in 2011, was presented by Mr. Marcel Boiteux in person until the age of 100. Through the Marcel Boiteux Prize, EEA continues to honour every year those who produce a remarkable work in energy saving. " The Awards are presented annually at the end of the annual conference of the Energy Economists Association.
Christophe Bonnery said: "The French community of energy economists has produced several publications this year that have been noticed by the members of our jury.
I recall that EEA is neither a think tank nor a trade union. Like the institution to which it is affiliated, the International Association for Energy Economics (IAEE), which brings together national associations and members of 110 countries, and which I have had the honour of serving as President, it brings together academics, researchers, experts, doctoral students who propose solutions against climate change and work to promote access to energy for economic growth.
I am particularly vigilant that the positions of EEA and IAEEE are balanced and based on economic rationality. Our mission as energy economists is to contribute to the energy transition by providing constructive, critical, academic and independent advice.
A word about IAEEE and its activities. IAEEE is first the publication of two reference scientific journals including "Economics of Energy & Environmental Policy" and the prestigious "Energy Journal" whose editorial committee has just been renewed.
These are also conferences for members. On average, EEA organizes about 20 conferences a year. After the parenthesis of the years 2020 and 2021, during which, as a pandemic, we had opted for webinars, our conferences were essentially back in face-to-face mode. These events are intended to facilitate the flow of ideas to contribute usefully to the public debate. In 2025, we will strengthen the times of conviviality after these conferences to extend the dialogues.
The next international conferences, after Tokyo, Riyadh, Istanbul and Paris, will be held in 2026 in Santiago, Chile, 2027 in Hong Kong, in 2029 in Calgary, in 2030 in Athens.

As I said one of EEA's core tasks is to distinguish energy-saving work from Marcel Boiteux' spirit and to transmit his flame and excellence in energy saving. Civil society wants to understand the rationality of energy policies. This can be done through conferences, but also through the distinction of this remarkable work. To meet our mission of stimulating and disseminating applied economic science to energy, EEA awards several awards annually. In addition to the Marcel Boiteux Prize for Best Energy Economics, the association distinguishes each year the most promising research papers signed by young researchers enrolled in PhD. Created in 2023, a third type of award will also highlight outstanding works: those made in the framework of Master's memoirs. Here I would like to thank the members of these three juries who have had the heavy task of evaluating the productions of the past year on our favourite themes.
It is now time to award the EEA Awards starting with the Prix Marcel Boiteux 2025. Last year, this award was presented to Catherine Locatelli and Sadek Boussena for the book "Gas and War in Ukraine: Where is the international market going?" For 2025, I shall speak without further delay to the representative of the Jury."

This year, the Marcel Boiteux Prize for Best Work in Energy Economics is awarded to the book "Energy and Inequalities. A political history Lucas Chancel.

At the announcement of the prize, the Professeur Yannick Perez (CentraleSupélech), member of the 2025 Marcel Boiteux Prize Jury, detailed the reasons for the selection of the jury.
